Melchizedek Card Game

All you need is a regular deck of playing cards to teach Bible students about Hebrews chapter 7 using this game. Before you begin playing, read Hebrews 7 with the class and discuss the highlights.

Objective: Collect the most "tithes" (tens) to become King Melchizedek.

Instructions:

  1. Remove all of the Queens, Jacks, and Jokers from the deck and set them aside. You will not use these cards. (If you are playing with more than four people, add another deck of cards.)

  2. Now remove all of the Aces and Kings and shuffle the deck.

  3. Deal out seven cards to each player.

  4. Return the Aces and Kings to the deck. Then shuffle the deck and put it face down in the center of the table.

  5. Start with the youngest player and take turns clockwise around the table.

  6. The first player draws a card off the top of the deck.

  7. Is the card a King (King Melchizedek)? Draw a card from any of the other players.

  8. Is the card an Ace (Abraham)? Allow the person to your right to draw from your hand.

  9. At the conclusion of your turn, you may lay down a "tithe." A "tithe" is actually a tenth, but in the Melchizedek Card Game, it is one or two cards that have a sum of ten. For example, a "tithe" can be a 10 or a combination of a 2 and an 8.

  10. After a player lays down a tithe, it is the next player's turn.

  11. The game proceeds until all of the cards are drawn from the deck.

  12. At the conclusion of the round, all players can lay down their remaining tithes.

  13. Keep track of the scores by writing down the amount of tithes collected by each player.

  14. After seven rounds, the person with the most tithes is King Melchizedek!
